Prefix system
To further expand gearing without adding hundreds of hours of specific itemization, you could introduce a prefix system that adds specific stats to the base stats of an item.
You would have 1 pure prefix for each stat, and combination prefixes for two stats.
So you make have “Foxfang showers word of power” which adds 1 or 2 strength to the weapon.
Or you might have frostfang greater sword of the wolf, which could do strength and alacrity.
Dual prefixes like wolf would have slightly higher base stats, evenly split between the two it offers, so that it doesn’t feel like a huge loss
