Pressing Enter to start a chat pauses auto-run

If I am auto-running (the logical thing to do when getting from point A to point B) and I press Enter to type into the chat window, my character stops running. When I press Esc to close the chat window it resumes running. This isn't logical - I should be able to run and chat at the same time.
