Wolf alive but unable to attack and health not regenerating

I found a wolf which has full health and is alive, but I can't attack it, also it appears that my health isn't regenerating. I started casting on the target a little distance away, across the river. I'm not sure if that may have caused it to bug out (i.e. maybe it couldn't path find).
